As part of her pledge to empower Lagos West residents with business grants, Senator Idiat Ranti announced that the majority of beneficiaries of the cash empowerment programme have begun receiving their bank drafts, with distribution now extending across different constituent groups.
Senator Idiat Ranti, who represents Lagos West in the Senate, made the announcement in a post on X on Sept 3, 2026, saying beneficiaries selected under the “ONLINE” and “LGA/LCDA” clusters had received their drafts.
“Staying true to my pact with the people of Lagos-West, especially in respect of social intervention initiatives with particular focus on the beneficiaries of the recent cash empowerment programme; I am delighted to report that the majority of the selected beneficiaries in the ‘ONLINE’ and ‘LGA/LCDA’ clusters have received their bank drafts,” she wrote.
According to the senator, beneficiaries from other clusters are also being contacted and collecting their drafts. These include Community Development Committees (CDC), market associations, artisans and tradesmen, religious groups and people living with disabilities, among others. She said the response from beneficiaries who had received the money had been positive, describing their reactions as open excitement and gratitude.
She added that the intervention was significant because of the potential support it could provide for small businesses and livelihoods. The latest update follows the cash empowerment programme announced by Senator Idiat as part of her constituency interventions in Lagos West. The programme is expected to provide financial assistance to 2,000 beneficiaries, with ₦200 million earmarked for the intervention.
While some beneficiaries have now received their drafts, Senator Idiat has said the distribution was not yet over. She assured those still waiting that they would not be excluded from the process.
“I am therefore using this medium to assure all the beneficiaries that no one will be left behind.”
For constituents who were not selected for the current intervention, the senator urged them to remain hopeful, saying there would be opportunities to benefit from future programmes. She also acknowledged the difficulty of reaching everyone who may need assistance, despite her desire to do so.
“Although I must remind us that it is practically impossible to reach all deserving constituents, it is my desire to be able to reach out to all deserving constituents”
The programme comes amid the wider use of constituency interventions by elected representatives to provide financial assistance, equipment and other forms of support. The beneficiaries receiving the current grants, however, face the immediate issue of actually receiving the promised funds and of what the ₦100,000 support can enable them to do with their businesses and livelihoods.
Senator Idiat concluded her statement by reiterating her commitment to what she described as quality representation and to facilitating projects and programmes aimed at improving the lives of her people.
