This week, we reported on two femicide cases with very different outcomes: a man arrested over his wife’s death in Ogun State and another sentenced to death for his wife’s murder in Yobe. We also remembered the women who helped sustain the #EndSARS movement six years ago, covered a woman’s defiance of police tear gas at the anniversary gathering, and fact-checked a false claim targeting Priscilla Ojo. On a brighter note, Olamide Ehinfun-Adekunle became Nigeria’s youngest female Senior Advocate of Nigeria, while former Miss Nigeria Shatu Garko graduated with First-Class Honours. Here’s what we reported on this week.

Sunday, October 18, marks World Menopause Day 2026. The International Menopause Society has themed this year’s observance “Chronic Pain in Midlife”. This theme asks a question we’ve always ignored: If women live through menopause, why is there so little awareness of it?

- Six Years After #EndSARS: Remembering the Women who held up the movement
The #EndSARS movement was born out of years of police brutality in Nigeria, with the activities of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), a unit established in 1992 to combat armed robbery and other serious crimes.Over time, SARS became notorious for torture, extortion, arrests, unlawful detention and even killings. Young people were constantly being profiled because of their appearance, hairstyles, tattoos, phones and laptops, with officers sometimes accusing them of internet fraud without evidence.
- X User Falsely Quotes Priscilla Ojo Calling Enioluwa “Big-Time Hater”
Claim: An X user, @Yabgmi_, claimed that media personality Priscilla Ojo-Mkambala said content creator Enioluwa Adeoluwa is a “big-time hater” who is jealous of his fellow content creators, wants to be with chef Hilda Baci “so bad,” and was happy when Hilda had issues with her husband.
Verdict: False. In the clip attached to the post, Ojo-Mkambala calls Enioluwa her best friend and “a very good person” while answering questions about dating rumours and his tears at her wedding. Nothing in the clip says he is a hater or jealous of other creators, and Hilda Baci is never mentioned. The claimant wrote the words himself, put them in quotation marks and credited them to her; in a misogynistic attempt to portray Priscilla badly, while also gaining attention on his platform.
- Six Years Later, Nigerians Honour Victims of #EndSARS Protests Amid Tear Gas
In a determination to honor the victims of the 2020 #EndSARS protests, a Nigerian woman defied police tear gas at the Lekki Toll Gate to pay her tribute. The incident occurred on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, during the solemn anniversary gathering to remember those who died during the peaceful protests against police brutality.

A Yobe State High Court in Damaturu has sentenced 45-year-old Abubakar Musa, popularly known as Daddy, to death by hanging for the culpable homicide of his wife, Ammi Adamu Mamman. The judgment, delivered by Justice G.K. Kaigama of High Court 1, comes nearly three years after the January 2024 killing and marks a rare instance of a femicide case reaching conviction and a capital sentence.
