A 25-year-old Nigerian man, Bosun Osagie, has been sentenced to two years and three months in prison in the United Kingdom for hacking a woman’s social media accounts, using her photographs to create fake profiles advertising her as a sex worker, selling her images online and blackmailing her for money. Bosun, who lives on Hartslock Drive in Bexley, London, was sentenced on Monday, October 12, after pleading guilty to computer hacking and blackmail, according to Merseyside Police.

The case came to light in February 2023, when the woman, who lives in Wirral, Merseyside, reported that her Snapchat and Twitter accounts had been hacked. Her photographs were also used to create fake accounts that solicited customers for sexual services, while the images were also sold online. The woman was blackmailed, with Bosun attempting to extort money from her after invading her privacy and catfishing her on social media.

After an investigation, police arrested and charged him. He later admitted the offences at an earlier court hearing. In addition to his prison sentence, the court imposed a 10-year restraining order prohibiting him from contacting the victim.

Detective Sergeant Darren Devonport of Merseyside Police said Osagie’s actions had caused the woman deep distress, adding that he had not only invaded her privacy but also tried to blackmail her into giving him money.
