As part of its mandate to improve how the news represents and portrays women, Naija Feminists Media (NFM) appeared on Women Radio 91.7 FM’s Her Lens Podcast on October 27, 2026. The conversation focused on how media can amplify women’s voices, centre women’s experiences, and normalise a culture of inclusion and dignity towards gender equality.

Women Radio 91.7 FM is a broadcast organisation with a shared mandate to amplify women’s voices. WFM91.7’S programme officer, Funmi Bamgbala, led the conversation. Its Founding Director, Simbiat Bakare, represented NFM on the programme. She spoke about the media’s role in shaping public perception of women and gender issues, and the need for journalism that reflects women’s realities accurately and respectfully.

She also discussed NFM’s work to amplify women’s voices, document gender issues, and promote accountability, and stressed the importance of inclusion and dignity in how women’s stories are told. Simbiat, however, noted that while media plays a key role in ensuring an inclusive society,  social and legal institutions are integral to the inclusion and development process.

“Religious leaders must preach dignity, equality, and inclusion, while legal institutions must ensure the rights of women are upheld,” the NFM founder said.

The conversation was part of the Renewed Women’s Voices and Leadership Nigeria Project, supported by ActionAid and Global Affairs Canada.
