Actress Regina Daniels has accused her husband, Senator Ned Nwoko, of marrying her at 17 and subjecting her to abuse. Her statement sparked nationwide outrage and renewed debates on child marriage.
Nigerians have expressed outrage following revelations made by Nollywood actress Regina Daniels, who revealed that her husband, Senator Ned Nwoko, married her when she was 17 years old and subjected her to abuse and control.
In a statement shared on her Instagram page on Nov 9, 2025, Regina said the marriage had no legal recognition, claiming there was no court wedding or signed document between them.
She accused the Delta North senator of locking her up, isolating her, injecting her with substances against her will, seizing her phone, and labelling her mentally unstable whenever she resisted him.
“Foolish me! When I married you at 17 was I doing drugs?” She wrote in part, “It’s time to fight with all of me in court! I’m not backing down.”
Her statement has since gone viral, with widespread reactions from Nigerians on social media, with many condemning the senator’s conduct and questioning the legality and morality of his marriage to a minor. Prominent actress Mercy Johnson-Okojie weighed in on the issue, emphasising that Regina was a reenager when she was married to Ned Nwoko:
“She was 17. TEEN. At 17, I was still figuring out personal hygiene. Some 17-year-old boys are still learning to wipe their a55es. But now we expect perfection from her because she is on camera?”
On X, user @TomiwaTegbe also stated he would never be caught defending the senator,
“God forbid I find anything credible or worth defending from a 64-year-old man who married a 17-year-old.”
Meanwhile, NFM has released a press statement calling for investigations into the allegations made by Regina Daniels in the interest of justice.
