Summary
Anambra women protest against killings of women including the murder of Chioma Nwanna, the woman who was set ablaze by her husband, Obiozor Nwaka.
In reaction to Obiozor Nwaka’s murder of his wife, Chioma, Anambra women took to the streets to protest on January 23, 2025.
The over 179 women protesters, chanting songs, were from different communities and associations, including the Anambra State Association of Town Unions (ASATU) and Women Leaders of Communities. The women marched to the office of the Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Ms. Ify Obinabo, at Prof. Dora Akunyili Women Development Centre Awka.
The representatives from various women’s wings expressed their displeasure against femicide and threatened to burn down the house of any man who killed his spouse. They also urged husbands to love and take care of their wives.
In response, Ms Ify Obinabo, the Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, assured them that justice would prevail over Chioma Nwanna’s murder.
