Bambam rescued a suicidal Malawian mother of three in Lagos who attempted to end her life due to her husband's infidelity and emotional abuse, sparking calls for mental health support and domestic violence awareness.

Big Brother Naija star and actress Bamike Olawunmi Adenibuyan, popularly known as Bambam, has been widely praised for rescuing a suicidal mother of three at Megamound Estate, Lekki-Ajah, Lagos.

In a heartfelt Instagram post, Bambam shared details of how she intervened just before the woman attempted to end her life. The woman, a Malawian national, was reportedly driven to despair by her husband’s infidelity and emotional abuse.

According to Bambam, the woman’s husband has multiple baby mamas, and she is feeling frustrated. Feeling isolated and hopeless, the woman climbed a GP water tank, tied a rope around her neck, and was about to jump when Bambam and others stepped in to save her.

Describing the heartbreaking situation, Bambam wrote

“Her husband, two brothers, and side chic are inside that house with her three children! One of them is still breastfeeding! People are evil! How have we lost our humanity?”

Bambam cried out for help on social media, urging Nigerians to recommend a rehabilitation centre or suicide watch mentor for the woman and her three children, including a breastfeeding infant. She condemned the husband’s actions and emphasised the need for women to prioritise their mental health.

In a follow-up post, Bambam revealed that activist Adetoun and the Lagos State government had taken over the case. She expressed gratitude to Omoni Oboli, the movie producer she was working with, for pausing production to prioritise the woman’s safety.

“I have spoken to @Justadetoun, and Lagos State has taken over the case. The woman and her three sons are safe,” Bambam wrote. She also urged people to speak up against domestic violence and to support women in distress.
