As part of its commitment to advancing feminist journalism and gender reporting, Naija Feminists Media invites media professionals to apply for its 2026 Editorial Fellowship on reproductive health to mark #16DaysofActivism Against Gender-Based Violence.
Reproductive health is central to reproductive rights, which are fundamental rights that enable individuals to make informed decisions about their bodies and reproduction. Yet, women and girls continue to face legal, social, cultural, economic, and healthcare barriers that limit their ability to exercise these rights.
The annual fellowship is for innovative journalists and media professionals across Africa committed to driving systemic social change through storytelling.
From October 26 to December 11, 2026, the fellowship will train 16 selected journalists with the skills and mentorship to produce investigative stories on reproductive health care, including access to reproductive and neonatal healthcare, safe abortion, lived realities, policies, and the barriers women and girls face in exercising their reproductive rights.
Each fellow will produce one original story highlighting lived realities, contributing factors, barriers, and solutions. Stories will be published during the 16 Days of Activism to educate the public, challenge harmful narratives, and push for legislative and institutional accountability on reproductive rights across Africa.
The fellowship objectives are to ensure lasting impact in journalism and advocacy. It includes:
- Train journalists in reproductive and gender-inclusive health investigative reporting, narrative writing, and ethical storytelling.
- Foster a cohort of storytellers who apply a gender lens to reproductive health issues.
- Produce high-quality journalism that contributes to public discourse and policy, and promotes accountability on reproductive rights.
- Provide mentorship, collaboration, and networking opportunities to build long-term professional impact.
- Sensitise the public and facilitate informed conversations and policy action on reproductive rights in Africa.
- Challenge misinformation, stigma, and harmful narratives surrounding reproductive health.
