Chidimma Vanessa Adetshina, 23, who is currently crowned “Miss Universe Nigeria” has been appointed as a brand ambassador of Enugu state on Thursday, October 10, 2024.
Chidimma, who hails from Amurri, Nkanu West Local Government Area in Enugu State, was conferred this appointment by the current governor of the state, Peter Ndubuisi Mbah.
Born in South Africa to a Nigerian father and Mozambican mother, Chidimma faced xenophobic backlash back in July when she contested for the Miss South Africa Pageantry and was brutally rejected by South Africans because of her dual citizenship.
After withdrawing from the pageantry after her mother was accused of identity theft, Chidimma returned to Nigeria to contest in the Miss Universe Nigeria pageant while representing Taraba state. She won the competition and was crowned the current Miss Universe Nigeria.
In a post shared on X, the Enugu State Governor mentioned how Chidimma embodies the resilience and determination that define the people of Enugu.
“Her journey to this remarkable achievement, despite numerous challenges, is a testament to the grit and perseverance that we, as Ndi Enugu, are known for.” He said, “I am incredibly proud to congratulate her on this accomplishment and welcome her back home.”
In an Instagram post, Chidimma expressed how honoured she felt at the warm welcome the people of Enugu state gave her and her father.
“Upon my homecoming, I was received and appointed as the brand ambassador of Enugu State. I cannot express my gratitude for all the great things I have achieved. Again … Nigeria, THANK YOU for picking me up when I was on my knees.”
Gov. Peter also mentioned that Chidimma has the state’s full support as she prepares to represent the state on the global stage of Miss Universe 2024.
“As she prepares to represent Nigeria and Enugu on the global stage at Miss Universe 2024 Pageant in Mexico, she carries with her our full support and pride. We are confident she will continue to shine as a symbol of excellence and resilience,” he wrote.
