Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie will headline the 2025 Things Fall Apart Festival in Enugu. The week-long event will celebrate Chinua Achebe’s literary legacy through conversations, performances, and cultural activities.

Renowned Nigerian author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie has been announced as the headliner of the 2025 Things Fall Apart Festival. The festival is a week-long celebration of the literary legacy of the late Professor Chinua Achebe.

Organised by the Centre for Memories, also known as Ncheta Ndigbo, the festival’s inaugural edition will take place from June 29 to July 5, 2025, at the Centre’s premises in Enugu. The festival expands on the annual Things Fall Apart Day, which is now in its fifth year.

In an announcement, the organisers expressed excitement over Chimamanda’s participation.

“We are screaming with excitement because the iconic Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie — globally celebrated novelist, feminist, and one of the most powerful literary voices of our time — is coming home to headline the Things Fall Apart Festival 2025.”

Chimamanda Adichie, who recently concluded a global tour for her new book Dream Count, will join the festival to honour Chinua Achebe, whom she has often cited as a foundational influence on her writing.

Themed “Masculine, Feminine, Human: The Dialogue of Complements in Things Fall Apart,” the festival will explore the intersection of gender, culture, and identity as portrayed in Achebe’s groundbreaking 1958 novel, which turns 67 this year.

According to organisers, Chimamanda’s appearance will feature a keynote conversation reflecting on storytelling, cultural rootedness, and the timeless dialogue between history and identity.

The festival will also include diverse events such as dramatic performances, film screenings, art exhibitions, youth engagement activities, memory walks, and a reimagined Umuofia village experience. Essay competitions and salon-style conversations are also part of the week’s schedule.

The Centre for Memories described the event as “a powerful moment in our collective exploration” of Chinua Achebe’s legacy and the continuing relevance of his work in shaping African literature and thought.
