A Nigerian man, Chinedu Aniekuoku, has been arrested for holding his own sister captive in a locked room under chains for over one year and four months. The incident was officially confirmed by the FCT Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Sanusi, on Monday, June 15, 2026, during a briefing with journalists in Abuja.

Addressing the case, the Commissioner told reporters that the police received a disturbing call on June 12, 2026, and dispatched its team from the Katempe Division to a residence in the Mpape area of Abuja. Upon arrival, Chinedu prevented the officers from entering the room, but they forcefully found their way in. They found Grace heavily emaciated, chained, and living in hygienic conditions amidst her own waste.

The preliminary police investigations revealed that Chinedu confined the 36-year-old victim to a room for 16 months over an alleged joint cement business and also to prevent her from asking about her missing son, whom the perpetrator allegedly took away to an unknown location about two years ago. In addition, he allegedly labelled her as mentally unstable to claim full ownership of the business.

“The suspect had forcefully taken away the victim’s son to an unknown location about two years ago and subsequently kept his sister in confinement to prevent her from raising any questions regarding the whereabouts of the child, who may have been used for sacrifice,” the commissioner said.

Grace has been admitted to the hospital, where she’s receiving medical treatment. Meanwhile, the suspect has been apprehended and is in custody. The police have set up an investigation to trace and rescue the missing child.

“The suspect will be charged in court upon conclusion of the investigation,” the commissioner said.
