Summary

Popular content creator Oritsemeyiwa Catherine, also known as Judas of Beads, has called for the reform of conservational tourism in Nigeria. She noted that the animals in zoos in Nigeria appear neglected and should be returned to the wild if they can’t be taken care of. She added that Nigerians should support local centres by visiting zoos.

Content creator Catherine Oritsemeyiwa, popularly known as Judas of Beads, has called on Nigeria to reform conservation centres, particularly those with zoos. The lifestyle influencer known for bead making shared that if the animals in zoos can no longer be fed and properly cared for, they should be returned to the wild.

“All the animals in Nigerian zoos are hungry. You’ve abandoned tourist attractions and zoos for restaurants. The ribs of these animals are showing. Even the hyenas just lie there sleeping,” she said.

Catherine claimed some animals were being fed spoiled food, stating that she witnessed a monkey being fed spoiled rice in a zoo she recently visited. Calling the practice of zoo keeping in Nigeria unethical, she added that the animals that looked healthy while in the wild, when captured, now appeared sick.

“If any animal escapes and eats someone, I won’t feel sorry for you. Just send them back to the wild. Hunger is finishing them here,” she advocated.

Catherine also urged Nigerians to visit their local zoos regularly and show support.
