Renowned Nigerian DJ and philanthropist Cuppy took to X to announce the release of the 2024 Cuppy Foundation Annual Report. The Cuppy Foundation is committed to providing access to quality education and empowering children and youth with critical thinking, creativity, and freedom.
The report details a year of significant achievements in empowering youth through education and highlights the foundation’s ongoing commitment to fostering opportunities for young people.
Expanding Global Impact
Since its inception in 2018, the Cuppy Foundation has remained dedicated to providing educational opportunities and support to young Africans. In 2024, the foundation expanded its reach beyond Africa, collaborating with international organisations such as the United Nations, Save the Children, and the King’s Trust. Through these partnerships, the foundation has supported youth development initiatives and provided essential educational resources to students across the continent and in the diaspora.
DJ Cuppy, who recently earned a summer degree from the London School of Economics, emphasised the importance of access to quality education.
“Success in academia requires more than intelligence; it demands opportunity and support. The Cuppy Foundation strives to provide a chance for African students to thrive and inspire their communities,” she stated in the report.
Partnerships and Milestones
One of the foundation’s key achievements in 2024 was its continued collaboration with Save the Children, marking five years of partnership. The initiative has focused on a holistic approach to youth development, offering support in education, nutrition, child protection, and adolescent sexual and reproductive health. Over the past year, the programme has reached thousands of children and families across Borno, Adamawa, and Katsina states in Nigeria.
Cuppy also strengthened her role as a King’s Trust Celebrity Ambassador. She actively participated in several high-profile events, including the “Change A Girl’s Life” campaign and the rebranded King’s Trust Awards. In May, she co-hosted the international segment of the awards alongside TV presenters Ant & Dec, celebrating young achievers from Nigeria and New Zealand.
Her philanthropic efforts were further recognised when she was invited to Buckingham Palace for a reception by King Charles III. The monarch commended her contributions to education and her creative influence as a DJ.
A Global Platform for Change
DJ Cuppy played a significant role at the 79th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), moderating discussions for the UN Youth Office and performing at key events, including the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Moment. A highlight of the gathering was Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed joining Cuppy on stage for an impromptu dance, reinforcing the event’s spirit of unity and progress.
Beyond the UNGA, Cuppy engaged in various global advocacy efforts. She participated in Bloomberg Philanthropies’ “Her Money, Her Life” roundtable, the Global Citizen Festival in Central Park, and a private philanthropy breakfast alongside Bill Gates and Aliko Dangote, discussing key agendas for Africa’s development.
Educational Initiatives at Oxford and NYU A landmark achievement for the Cuppy Foundation in 2024 was the first anniversary of The Cuppy Africa Oxford Scholars Fund, which has provided financial aid to African students facing hardship. Over the year, the fund supported six students, granting a total of £5,700. In collaboration with Templars Law, the foundation secured additional funding to expand the initiative’s reach.
Building on this success, Cuppy launched The Cuppy Africa Steinhardt Scholars Fund at New York University (NYU) in September 2024. The initiative aims to support African students pursuing higher education at NYU, ensuring financial constraints do not hinder academic excellence.
Sustainability and Social Responsibility
Cuppy also used her platform to champion sustainability. Partnering with the Salvation Army, she led a campaign to encourage clothing donations and combat fashion waste. Additionally, she spoke at global events such as the Millennium Campus Network and Peace One Day, advocating for youth leadership and peacebuilding.
Looking Ahead to 2025 Reflecting on the foundation’s impact in 2024, DJ Cuppy expressed her excitement for the future.
“We are more determined than ever to change young lives, build purposeful partnerships, and create new opportunities for the next generation,” she stated.
With a year filled with remarkable milestones and a growing global influence, the Cuppy Foundation continues to break barriers and empower youth through education, proving that philanthropy and passion can drive meaningful change.
