Summary
Edna Imade ended her goal drought with a crucial strike in Granada’s 2-1 win over Espanyol, bringing her season tally to 12 goals and strengthening her case for a Super Falcons call-up.
Edna Imade has strengthened her case for a place in the Super Falcons of Nigeria squad after netting her 12th league goal of the season in Granada’s 2-1 victory over Espanyol in the Spanish top flight.
The 24-year-old Nigerian forward was in action on February 16, 2025, in a Primera División de la Liga de Fútbol Femenino clash at the Ciudad Deportiva Del Granada. Edna, who had been enduring a three-match goal drought, found the back of the net to spark her team’s comeback after Espanyol had taken the lead in the first half.
Espanyol opened the scoring in the 30th minute through Lice Chamorro, whose long-range effort stunned the home crowd. Imade had a chance to equalise before halftime from the penalty spot but saw her effort denied by the opposition goalkeeper, adding to the tension of the encounter.
However, she redeemed herself in the 65th minute, firing a well-placed shot that ricocheted off the woodwork before crossing the line to level the score. Just two minutes later, Ariadna Mingueza secured the victory for Granada with a stunning long-range strike, sealing all three points for the home side.
Edna Imade’s latest goal ends a 25-day scoring drought, bringing her Liga F tally to 12 goals in 19 appearances. Despite being a prolific scorer, she is yet to register an assist this season, having created 14 scoring chances and completed over 192 passes.
Her efforts in the match earned her the Player of the Match award before she was substituted in the 82nd minute for Ornella Vignola.
With her goal drought now behind her, the Nigerian forward will be aiming to maintain her scoring form and push for a spot in the Super Falcons squad. Additionally, she will be looking to break another barrier which involves registering her first assist of the season.
Edna Imade’s performances continue to make a compelling case for her inclusion in the Nigerian national team setup. If she keeps up her form, she could soon earn a Super Falcons call-up as Nigeria gears up for international matches.
