Maryam Usman, a 30-year-old teacher at Brains Minds Nursery and Primary School in Ugbamaka, Okpo District, Kogi State, has reportedly died after she was brutally assaulted by Abdullahi Ishaka, the father of a pupil she disciplined. Her death was confirmed by the Kogi State Police Command on Sunday, June 28, 2026.
According to the police, the assault occurred on June 18 2026, when Abdullahi Ishaka, accompanied by two women, reportedly stormed the school and brutally assaulted Maryam over disciplinary action she had taken against his child. The teacher sustained severe injuries and was initially treated at a hospital in Ugbamaka before her condition worsened.
“The victim sustained serious injuries and was initially treated at a hospital in Ugbamaka before being referred to Iko-Ojo Hospital, Okpo, for further medical attention. She, however, passed away on 25th June, 2026,” the statement revealed.
ASP Saliu Oyiza Afusat, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, revealed that the suspects have fled, but efforts are currently ongoing to track down and arrest them. She added that the police have launched a homicide investigation and the case will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) once the suspects are apprehended.
