On July 14, 2026, a man raped and murdered Loveth Ifesinachi Okafor, a Point of Sale operator, along Monastery Road, Mopo, Ajah in Lagos State, before attempting to dispose of her body in a nearby canal.
The man was apprehended at the scene by security guards and handed over to the police, who have confirmed his arrest and transferred the case for further investigation.
Loveth Ifesinachi Okafor was a young woman who ran a POS business in the Eti-Osa Local Government Area of Lagos State. On July 14, 2026, she was subjected to a brutal sexual assault before being killed.
The man then attempted to dump her body in a canal along Monastery Road. A disturbing video of the incident, which circulated widely on social media, showed Loveth’s half-naked body floating in the water, with a voice in the background stating in Pidgin,
“They killed this lady at Amode. Loveth is gone. After they raped and killed her, they dumped her corpse inside this water.”
The Lagos State Police Command confirmed the arrest in a statement by its Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, on 16 July, 2026.
“The command received information on July 14, 2026, at about 11:45 a.m. that the suspect had allegedly killed the woman and was attempting to dispose of her body in a canal along Monastery Road, Mopo, Ajah. The Divisional Police Officer immediately led a team of operatives to the scene, where the suspect, who had already been apprehended by security guards in the area, was taken into police custody. The victim, a young woman who operated a POS business, was reportedly subjected to a heinous sexual assault before being killed.”
DOHS Cares Foundation first alerted the public to the case on July 15, 2026, and confirmed that
“The perpetrator, who confessed to raping and killing the victim, has been caught and is currently at Ajiwe Police Station, though the victim’s family hasn’t been told.”
In a follow-up post, the organisation stated that the case would be transferred to Ogombo Police Station for further investigation and prosecution, pledging to monitor developments closely.
Femicide remains a growing national crisis in Nigeria, with an estimated 1 woman or girl killed every 49 hours across the country. Loveth Ifesinachi Okafor was not killed in her home or by an intimate partner; she was killed at her place of work, in a public commercial corridor, in broad daylight.
