Summary

Christopher Odu, the husband of Barrister Felicia Temilope Odu, beat and strangled her to death. This incident reflects the growing concern of male violence against women in Nigeria’s patriarchal society.

Christopher Odu, the husband of Barrister Felicia Temilope Odu, has brutally beaten and strangled her to death. This incident occurred on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, at Adamo, Ikorodu, Lagos State.

According to an Instagram post, which exposed this horrific incident, Christopher reportedly beat and strangled her to death in the presence of one of her sons. The 56-year-old lawyer and mother was recently called to the Nigerian Bar in September 2025.

Families and neighbours claimed that Barrister Felicia was the family breadwinner who built their home, sponsored their children’s education, and provided for her husband. She has endured domestic violence for over two decades, dating back to their courtship period.

Violence against women and girls remains one of the fastest-growing issues in Nigeria. Studies show that a significant percentage of Nigerian women have experienced various forms of violence, including physical, sexual, emotional, and psychological. This violence stemmed primarily from their intimate partner or families.

Domestic violence has escalated into brutal killings of women and girls, particularly at the hands of their intimate partners. According to data from the DOHS Femicide Dashboard, there were 150 femicide cases in 2024 and 88 cases in the first half of  2025.

Christopher Odu was initially arrested for Barrister Felicia’s death. However, he was released two days later. This act has sparked online outrage among Nigerians, with many condemning the actions of the security operatives, calling it an alarming display of negligence and disregard for victims of domestic violence.‎‎ The case has reignited conversations about the urgent need for stronger laws and better enforcement mechanisms to protect women from gender-based violence in Nigeria.
