A 51-year-old member of the Neighbourhood Security Watch Group, Emeka Emmanuel Nwangwu, has gruesomely murdered his 19-year-old maternal cousin, Loveth Uloma, inside a roundabout pharmacy in Nsukka, Enugu state, days after she reported for sexual abuse. He repeatedly hit her head on the ground, causing fatal injuries and her death.

The Enugu State Police Command confirmed this incident on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, stating that Emeka has been arrested and is currently in police custody.

According to their official press statement, Loveth has reported Emeka to the Umabor Division police station on Friday, November 28, 2025, on charges of defilement, sexual abuse, abduction, and threat to life. She reported that he sexually abused her and prevented communicating with family and friends after she began to live with him at age 13 in 2019, shortly after the death of his wife.

When her planned escape attempt to return to her family in Enugu-Ezike, Igbo-Eze North LGA, failed, Emeka allegedly threatened her with a firearm and forced her back to his residence in Ibeku-Opi, Nsukka LGA, where she was locked up in a room. She later escaped using a spare key and reported the incident to the police, who issued her a medical report form for examination. Emeka and the family were invited to the station, where he confessed, sought forgiveness, and promised to return her. The family initially chose not to prosecute the case due to personal ties, but opted for spiritual cleansing due to the incestuous and abominable act against the victim.

“The Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, PSC, condemned the crime and the cruel manner in which it was committed, consoling the family and assuring the public that justice will be served. He has directed the State Criminal Investigation Department (State CID) to investigate the case meticulously and ensure that it is charged to court within record time,” the statement concludes.

According to the DOHS Cares Foundation, femicide continues to be on the rise, with over 211 deaths recorded in 2025 alone.
