Summary: Femrivied, in collaboration with Naija Feminists Media and VARSH Foundation, trained 15 women on breaking barriers in recruitment and navigating the formal workplace as part of the RediscoverHer initiative on March 13, 2026.

Femrivied, in collaboration with Naija Feminists Media and VARSH Foundation, trained 15 women on navigating recruitment as African women in the workplace. The training was part of the first virtual RediscoverHer session held on March 13, 2026. RediscoverHer is a month-long empowerment initiative designed for African women who have stepped away from the workplace due to marriage, caregiving or social expectations.

Nguemo Emmanuel, founder of International Women Network and a recruitment officer at Jobberman, shared insights with participants on the economic gap of women in the formal sector, foregrounding the importance of the training. She noted that despite women making up half of the global population, only 40% are found in the global labour force. On the African continent women represent between 43% and 47% of the labour force, yet only 28% are found in formal jobs.

She emphasised that this gap was not due to a lack of talent or capability, but to systemic barriers that continue to limit women’s access to formal employment.

“Most of the time, instead of collaboration, we compete,” she stated, adding that “it is time for African women to rise above competition and embrace collaboration.”

On solutions, Nguemo urged women to build mastery in high-demand skills, making themselves difficult for hiring managers to ignore. She also encouraged women to seek lateral moves, take initiative, and think innovatively on the job.

Nguemo also addressed internal barriers, particularly self-doubt and fear of rejection, arguing that confidence alone can silence the internal barriers a woman carries into a job search. She closed by urging women to research organisations before applying, prioritising those with clear career growth paths and inclusive policies, and to join professional networks that support their advancement.

RediscoverHer is set to run throughout March 2026, with sessions held virtually to ensure accessibility for women across Nigeria and Africa.
