The federal government of Nigeria has officially withdrawn its cyberbullying and criminal defamation charges against Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan. This was revealed in a court document dated December 12, 2025.

Recall that Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central, was charged with criminal defamation following her public remarks in a live interview on a Channels Television programme, on April 3, 2025. During the interview, she accused Senate President Godswill Akpabio and  former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello, of plotting to have her assassinated. She was charged under Section 391 of the Penal Code Law, Cap 89, Laws of the Federation, 1990, which criminalises imputations made with the intent or knowledge that they could harm a person’s reputation.

Additionally, in December 2025, Akpabio filed a N200 billion defamation suit at the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) high court in Abuja against the law maker, over  her earlier sexual harassment allegations made against him.

Speaking on the discontinuance of the charges, Akpabio’s  Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Eseme Eyiboh, confirmed on Thursday, January 1, 2025, that the Senate President directed him to discontinue all suit charges he instituted against individuals over alleged defamation.

Meanwhile, the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation has also filed a Notice of Discontinuance dated December 12, 2025, before the Federal High Court, Abuja Judicial Division,  to effectively terminate the charges between the federal government and Senator Natasha in suit number FHC/ABJ/CR/195/2025.
