Former Minister of Women Affairs Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye has been recognised by the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) Nigeria for her contributions to girls’ education and women’s empowerment. In acknowledgement of her continued efforts to uplift women and girls in Nigeria, she received the “Advocate for Girl Child Education and Women Empowerment” award.
Announcing the honour in a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Feb. 8, 2025, Uju expressed her gratitude for the recognition and reaffirmed her commitment to social impact.
“I’m deeply honoured to have been recognised by the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) Nigeria for my service while in office. Receiving the “Advocate for Girl Child Education and Women Empowerment” award was a tremendous privilege,” she wrote.
Despite her removal from office during President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet reshuffle, Uju has remained vocal on issues affecting women and girls. She has continued to advocate against gender-based violence and support initiatives that empower women.
During the award event, she also announced the forthcoming launch of her “UJUKEN App,” a platform designed to support the less privileged in society.
“This occasion also presented a timely opportunity for me to announce the forthcoming launch of my UJUKEN App, designed to further my mission of supporting the less privileged in our society,” she added.
