Professor Francisca Bassey, a renowned food chemist and current Director of the Centre for General Studies at the University of Cross River State, has been appointed as the Acting Vice-Chancellor of the institution.

Francisca Bassey, a professor from the Department of Pure and Applied Chemistry at the University of Cross River State and current Director of the Centre for General Studies (CGS), has been appointed the new acting Vice-Chancellor of the University.

Following the dissolution of the current Governing Council of the University of Cross River State, Governor Bassey Otu appointed Professor Francisca with immediate effect on Monday, January 27th, 2025. Francisca is the first Professor of Food Chemistry at the University of Cross River State and has authored over 40 scholarly publications and presented papers at local and international conferences.

Professor Francisca Bassey was also a former deputy dean of science, where she served for two consecutive terms. She is also a recipient of the prestigious American Fulbright scholarship and a member of various professional bodies, such as the Institute of Chartered Chemists of Nigeria (ICCON), the Institute of Food Technology, USA, the Chemical Society of Nigeria (CSN), and the Organization for Women Scientists in Developing Countries (OWSD).
