Nollywood actress Grace-Charis Bassey, formerly Belinda Effah, has officially graduated from the United States Navy’s boot camp, earning the title of U.S. Navy Sailor. In addition, she has taken the oath of allegiance to become a citizen of the United States.
The Cross River State-born star announced the major milestone via her Instagram page, sharing photos and videos from her graduation ceremony. She also revealed that the achievement is dedicated to her late father, Naval Commander Asido Bassey Effah.
“Last week, I graduated from U.S. Navy boot camp as a Sailor and took the oath as a citizen of the United States,” she wrote. “This journey wasn’t easy, but I carried my roots, my faith, and my vision every step of the way. Nigeria raised me. America challenged me. I stand today stronger and more determined than ever.”
Grace Bassey, who changed her name from Belinda Effah to Grace-Charis in 2021, also shared that she joined the Navy choir to stay connected to her creative roots. She expressed immense gratitude to her supporters, stating,
“Thank you to everyone who believed in me. Thank you so much for all the outpouring love and support. This is just the beginning.”
Before her relocation, Grace-Charis Bassey starred in several Nollywood productions, including Kokomma and Miracle, and won accolades such as Most Promising Act at the 9th Africa Movie Academy Awards. Her transition from the entertainment industry to military service marks a new and inspiring chapter in her life.
“Proudly a U.S. Sailor,” she concluded in her post. “I am eternally grateful. In honour of my late father – Naval CDR Asido Bassey Effah.”
