Funke Akindele to Release New Blockbuster The Four

Nollywood filmmaker and actress Funke Akindele is set to return to cinemas with her latest film, The Four: No One Fights Alone, a new drama centered on four women whose lives and relationships are tested as they fight for the future of someone they love. She unveiled the film’s official poster and cast on Monday, announcing that The Four will be released in cinemas globally on December 11, 2026. The film is produced by Funke Akindele Network and distributed by FilmOne Entertainment. 

The poster puts Funke Akindele, singer Waje, and actresses Bisola Aiyeola and Chioma Chukwuka at the centre of the film, presenting the four women in distinctly styled looks. The announcement describes them simply as four women with different journeys, with the film’s tagline, “No One Fights Alone”.

The film follows Esosa and three women closely connected to her as they face circumstances that put their courage, loyalty and faith to the test while trying to protect the future of a young man they love. The story moves between the Odu community and the city, bringing together friendship, motherhood, sacrifice, resilience and family. 

Beyond its central storyline, the film is also expected to draw from different parts of Nigerian culture, with music, fashion, language and tradition incorporated into the film. According to the filmmakers, the production explores hope, sacrifice and unity while reflecting aspects of Nigerian identity. Funke, who wrote, directed and produced the film, said the story was built around relationships and experiences that audiences could recognise in their own lives.

“Audiences have grown with us over the years, and they expect stories that entertain while reflecting who we are. With this film, we are exploring the relationships that shape us, challenge us, and stay with us. I think audiences will find a part of themselves in this story.”

The film brings together a large cast from across Nollywood and the wider entertainment industry. Alongside Akindele, Bisola Aiyeola, Chioma Chukwuka and Waje, the cast includes Richard Mofe-Damijo, Timini Egbuson, Lateef Adedimeji, Ali Nuhu, Uzor Arukwe, Wunmi Toriola, Ronke Oshodi-Oke and Antar Laniyan. Afrobeats artiste Shoday and entertainment personalities Samuel Banks, Kolapo Omotosho and Ayomide Iwasokun are also part of the cast. 

The announcement comes after Akindele’s recent run of commercially successful films, including A Tribe Called Judah,  Everybody Loves Jenifa and Behind The Scenes. Her films have made her one of the most commercially successful filmmakers in Nigeria.
