Nollywood filmmaker and actress Funke Akindele has extended her box office success to the global streaming stage, as her latest film, Behind the Scenes (BTS), climbed to the number one spot on Netflix Nigeria just 24 hours after its digital debut.
The blockbuster, which premiered on the platform on April 3, 2026, quickly rose to the top of the “Top 10” chart by the next morning. Behind the Scenes had already achieved historic success during its theatrical run, grossing approximately N2.759 billion, making it one of the highest-grossing Nollywood films of all time. The film also performed strongly internationally, earning £159,000 in the United Kingdom and Ireland, where it emerged as the highest-grossing Nollywood release in those markets.
Directed by Funke Akindele and co-directed by Tunde Olaoye, the film was written by Funke alongside Collins Okoh and Uche Mordi. It features a star-studded cast including Ibrahim Chatta, Destiny Etiko, Tobi Bakre, and Iyabo Ojo, among others.
BTS tells the story of Aderonke “Ronky Fella” Faniran, a successful real estate mogul known for her generosity and support for others. Beneath her seemingly perfect life, however, lies a gradual unravelling driven by exploitation and greed within her inner circle.
The film’s popularity also earned “record-breaking viewership” on Kava TV, an international streaming platform.
“To the thousands of you who tried to enter KAVA at the exact same second, your love is massive! ” Kava said in a statement. “We’re currently experiencing a record-breaking surge in traffic following the release of Behind The Scenes.”
Kava TV noted that the massive viewership has led to temporary pressure on their servers, and their technical team has worked to fix the issue, with services now restored.
