Goodness Nwachukwu is a 27-year-old Nigerian para-athlete who began her sporting journey in 2012 doing weightlifting. Despite being diagnosed with limited movement in her lower limbs, which meant learning to navigate life with specialised balance and physical accommodation, the star athlete dominates women’s discus throwing in the F42 classification, rising to become one of Nigeria’s most reliable and spectacular international sports stars.
Prior to her Commonwealth feat, Goodness had set the record while winning gold at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, then raised the mark again in Glasgow. She produced a final-round throw of 39.66m to claim the Commonwealth title and improve her own F42 world record by more than three metres.
This victory also marks a successful title defence for Nwachukwu, making her stand out as a star athlete by breaking her own world record twice on her way to winning gold in the same event.
