Gunmen have abducted Ms Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul, the younger sister of former Minister of Power and APC 2027 gubernatorial aspirant in Oyo State, Bayo Adelabu, alongside her 12-year-old twin sons, Peter and Paul.

The kidnapping happened at about 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, in the Elewura area of Challenge, Ibadan, while she was on her way to drop the children at school.

In a statement issued by Comrade Femi Awogboro, Media Aide to Chief Adelabu, the family described the incident as unfortunate and distressing, while expressing confidence in ongoing efforts by security agencies to secure the victims’ release.

“The family members were going out this morning from Elewura to link the express when they were attacked and whisked away by the unknown kidnappers,” Femi stated.

Ms Olaide is the youngest of the five children of Ms Olufunmilayo Aduke Adegoke Adelabu. Before her voluntary retirement last year, she had worked at both the Central Bank of Nigeria and First Bank Pension Custodian.

Following her retirement, she relocated to Ibadan with her children and was making arrangements to join her husband, Mr John Paul, who had earlier relocated to the United States.

The Oyo State Police Command confirmed that it had commenced an investigation into the abduction, with the state Police Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade, assuring members of the public that all necessary resources had been deployed to ensure the safe rescue of the victims and the apprehension of the suspects.

The abduction comes barely three weeks after gunmen kidnapped 47 pupils, students, and teachers in Ahoro Esiele, Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State on May 15, 2026.
