Kechi Okwuchi, a singer, motivational speaker, author, and one of the two survivors of the Sosoliso plane crash that occurred in 2005, commemorate the anniversary of the unfortunate incident 19 years ago.
One of the survivors of a plane crash that killed 107 people, at the age of 16, Kechi suffered from third-degree burns with over 65% of her body burnt and a 30% chance of surviving. Kechi underwent treatments at Shriner Children’s Hospital in Galveston, Texas, America. She underwent more than 100 surgeries and was later treated by Dr. Peter Grossman, a surgeon who performed new surgeries on her to enhance her recovery.
Commemorating the day, she prayed that angels continue to watch over her.
“Today is the 19th anniversary of the Sosoliso plane crash. I hope the 60 Angels keep watch over me as I navigate life, living out God’s purpose for me. I hope their loved ones who’ve rooted for me since day 1 are proud of me, and that I can keep giving them reasons to smile,” Kechi said.
Since the incident, Kechi has continued to show resilience, making a name for herself as a global star. She is a two-time finalist of America’s Got Talent and the author of More Than My Scars, a book that takes readers through the pains and experiences of trauma and its survivors. Aside from that, she is a motivational speaker and musician whose works have inspired thousands of people.
