The Imo State Government has congratulated Super Falcons goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie for winning the African Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year Award for the second consecutive year. The award was presented to Nnadozie at the CAF Footballer of the Year ceremony held in Marrakech, Morocco, on Monday evening.
Chiamaka Nnadozie made history by successfully retaining the prestigious award at the CAF Awards, further solidifying her status as one of Africa’s top goalkeepers. The talented goalkeeper claimed the top prize following another exceptional season with French side Paris FC, where she was also named Première Ligue Goalkeeper of the Season for 2023-24.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the state’s Commissioner for Sports Development, Hon. Obinna Onyeocha, praised Chiamaka’s exceptional performances and dedication, which have brought honour to both Imo State and Nigeria.
Hon. Onyeocha also commended Chiamaka’s consistency throughout the past football season, highlighting her heroic displays that earned her recognition as one of Africa’s finest athletes. Despite narrowly missing out on the Women’s Footballer of the Year Award, the Commissioner celebrated Chiamaka’s rise from playing for Heartland Queens to becoming a renowned footballer on both the African and global stages.
He further encouraged young athletes to draw inspiration from Chiamaka Nnadozie’s achievements, emphasising that hard work and perseverance are essential for global recognition.
