At the Independent Awards 2024 Gala Night held in Lagos on Saturday, Mar. 15, 2025, the current First Lady of Nigeria as well as former Senator, Oluremi Tinubu was named and presented with the “Best Woman of the Year” Award. 

The Independent Awards, which recognise landmark achievements across politics, entertainment, business, education, and other fields, also saw Oluremi honour every Nigerian woman and young person for their daily contributions to the country’s progress, describing them as its unsung heroes.

In her acceptance speech, she dedicated the accolade to Nigerian women and youth, lauding their relentless efforts in advancing the nation’s growth and development. Represented at the event by Hajia Fatima Tajudeen —the wife of the Speaker of the House of Representatives— Oluremi expressed deep gratitude to the board of Independent Newspaper, remarking that the prestigious honour would further inspire her contributions to national development. “This award will inspire me further to contribute my quota to national development,” she said.

In the entertainment category, Bukunmi Adeaga —popularly known as Kiekie—was also honoured as Social Media Influencer of the Year for her significant industry impact.
