On August 12, 2026, First Lady Oluremi Tinubu issued a message to Nigerian youths on the occasion of International Youth Day 2026, urging them to remain focused and hardworking and to use education, innovation, entrepreneurship, and active citizenship as tools to pursue their dreams and contribute to national development.
She also called on government, institutions, and stakeholders to renew their commitment to creating an enabling environment for young Nigerians to thrive.
The First Lady’s message was released to mark International Youth Day, observed globally on August 12, with this year’s theme, “Different Contexts, Common Aspirations.”
The First Lady said she joined the global community in highlighting the theme’s significance, noting that although young people come from diverse backgrounds and face different circumstances, they share common aspirations for quality education, meaningful employment, equal opportunities, and a more sustainable future.
She encouraged Nigerian youths not to allow prevailing circumstances to deter them from pursuing their ambitions, stressing the importance of hard work and productive engagement.
“I encourage our youth to remain focused and hardworking. Use education, innovation, entrepreneurship, and active citizenship to pursue your dreams, fulfil your potential, and help build a more peaceful and prosperous Nigeria.”
The First Lady also called for greater investment in opportunities that would enable young Nigerians to realise their full potential and contribute meaningfully to national development:
“As we commemorate this day, let us renew our commitment to supporting and empowering young people by creating opportunities for them to realise their full potential and contribute meaningfully to society.”
