The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA), in partnership with the Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption (RoLAC) Programme, hosted a case conferencing session on May 29, 2025.
The session included the Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) and Officers-in-Charge (OCs) of Family Support Units (FSUs) across Lagos State. The European Union funded the engagement, which was implemented by the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (International IDEA).
It was held to strengthen collaboration on Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) cases. The session focused on tackling investigative challenges, improving coordination, and ensuring accountability in case management.
Welcoming participants, Ms Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi, Executive Secretary of DSVA, commended the police’s efforts in responding to SGBV but highlighted persistent gaps that hinder timely justice. She emphasised the importance of inter-agency cooperation and expressed hope that the case conference would spark practical solutions.
Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh Moshood, noted the agency’s commitment by reaffirming the Police Force’s support for FSUs and the importance of specialised training in survivor-centred policing.
The session featured real-life case presentations by Ms. Oluwatumininu Oni, DSVA’s Head of Case Management, and ACP Oluwatoyin Kazeem, Officer-in-Charge of the Gender Desk. These cases shed light on effective strategies and recurring obstacles in SGBV investigations and survivor support.
