In a momentous celebration of academic excellence, Miss Isioma Sybil Nwosu, the best graduating student of Lagos State University (LASU) for the 2023/2024 academic session, has received a N10 million cash prize from the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

Governor Sanwo-Olu, represented by his deputy, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, announced the reward during the institution’s 28th Convocation Ceremony, held at the Buba Marwa Auditorium,LASU main campus in Ojo, Lagos, between Thursday, Apr. 3 and Thursday, Apr. 10, 2025.

Isioma, who graduated with a first-class degree in Biochemistry, achieved an outstanding Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 4.93, the highest in her class and the entire university. She emerged as the Best Graduating Student in the Department of Biochemistry, the Faculty of Science, and the overall university.

Sanwo-Olu praised Isioma for her dedication and brilliance, describing her achievement as a beacon of hope and a testament to the intellectual capacity of Nigerian students.

“We are proud of Isioma and what she represents. She has not only made LASU proud but has also made Lagos State proud. Her hard work is commendable, and we are confident she will go on to do even greater things,” the governor stated.

Isioma, in an emotional address, expressed gratitude to her family, lecturers, and peers. She thanked Governor Sanwo-Olu and the university community for recognising her efforts and pledged to use the platform to inspire young people, especially girls, to pursue academic excellence.

The week-long convocation ceremony featured the graduation of thousands of students across various disciplines and witnessed the presence of top government officials, dignitaries, and members of the academic community.
