In celebration of International Women’s Day, Nigerian rapper, actor and activist Folarin Falana, popularly known as Falz, has partnered with AltSchool Africa to support women in tech through a scholarship program.
Announcing the initiative on X, Falz revealed plans to offer full scholarships to 20 women, allowing them to study tech courses of their choice. Sharing the initiative, Falz wrote:
“For this year’s International Women’s Day, and in collaboration with @AltSchoolAfrica, I will be offering full scholarships to 20 women to study tech courses in any area of choice, including Engineering, Product and Data.”
Interested applicants are to register through a provided link and make a compelling case for their selection. The beneficiaries will be announced on Saturday, March 8, 2025, marking International Women’s Day.
This initiative aligns with similar efforts by feminist, journalist, and filmmaker Kiki Mordi, who previously funded 100 women to study science and tech-related courses at AltSchool Africa. Kiki Mordi’s program provided opportunities for women interested in cloud engineering, cybersecurity, front-end and back-end engineering, product design, product management, product marketing, data science, data analytics, and data engineering.
Falz’s scholarship programme helps close the gender gap in tech by giving women the opportunity and skills they need to build careers.
