A viral online video showed a male lecturer at Niger Delta State University physically assaulting a female student over alleged exam malpractice and seized mobile phone.
A viral video shared on social media has sparked outrage from Nigerians towards a male lecturer at Niger Delta State University (NDU). The video showed the male lecturer landing heavy punches, slaps, and headbutts on a female student during an examination in a parked exam hall.
This incident occurred due to an allegation of exam malpractice and seized mobile phone. According to the video, the lecturer confiscated the student’s phone and ordered her to leave the hall after she was allegedly caught engaging in exam malpractice. However, she refused, demanding for her phone before she left. The lecturer retaliated with heavy pushes, slaps, and headbutts while holding her hair to prevent her from leaving.
This incident has sparked outrage from Nigerians who called out the lecturer for assaulting the student. Many opined that there was no need to confiscate her phone after she was allegedly caught, even the act of hitting her is way out of line.
Below are the reactions of Nigerians:
“The Lecturer lost it that moment he raised his hand against his student. He should have allowed her to leave the hall by every means. Not resort to physical combat with her,” @AdeyinkaKanmi commented.
“That doesn’t give him the right to hit her. It’s a higher institution for a reason. It’s only in Africa I’ll see them beating university students or talking about hair,”@ ugc.bygloria said.
“It wasn’t his place to throw punches. Could have handled it more gracefully. What does the university policy say in such situations? May call the university security on her or something,” nnaemekah_ugwu reacted.
In recent times, incidents of assault against women in corporate bodies have been on the rise, with Ibom Airline, condemned for the physical assault of their female passenger.
