Summary
Wisdom Benoie, a 37-year-old man from Bauchi State, has been arrested for sexually assaulting his 15-year-old stepdaughter multiple times while her mother was asleep.
Wisdom Benoie, 37, has been arrested by the Bauchi State Police Command for raping his 15-year-old stepdaughter on multiple occasions. The arrest followed a failed attempt at mob justice by outraged residents of Yalwan Tsakani, who reportedly caught him in the act.
According to a statement by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Ahmed Wakil, the suspect had been repeatedly entering the teenager’s room at night while her mother was asleep, subjecting her to sexual violence.
“On May 31, 2025, Wisdom Benoie, male, aged 37, of Yalwan Tsakani, was confronted by a group of local youths who suspected him of secretly molesting his stepdaughter.
“The matter came to light after the victim’s father reported the incident to the ORP unit in the Yalwan Tsakani area of Bauchi.” The command’s Police Public Relations Officer, Ahmed Wakil, stated in the press release.
The abuse came to light after the girl, unable to continue suffering in silence, confided in neighbours. Her biological father then alerted the police, prompting a swift intervention by officers attached to Operation Restore Peace (ORP).
Preliminary investigations confirmed that Benoie is married to the survivor’s mother, making him the girl’s stepfather. During interrogation, he confessed to the assaults.
The survivor has been taken to a medical facility for care and further support. Meanwhile, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for discreet investigation and prosecution.
