Driven by her belief in inclusion and representation, she is one of the contestants in Nigeria’s first-ever Albinism Pageant, organised by Misty Glam Company (MGC). The pageant celebrates visibility, identity, and beauty beyond society’s narrow standards.

In a conversation with Naija Feminists Media, Rebecca spoke about breaking misconceptions, her dreams for the future, and why this platform is important to her.

Meet Olabode Rebecca- Albinism Advocate

  1. Why did you decide to participate in the pageant?

I’m thrilled to participate in the Miss Albinism Advocacy Pageant to show the world how beautiful, strong, and creative persons with albinism are. I also want to promote inclusivity, challenge negative stereotypes, and empower young girls with albinism.

  1. What misconception about albinism would you like to change?

I would like to change the misconceptions that people with albinism are good for ritual, or that we are cursed and cannot see when it’s sunny. These are stereotypes which cause stigma, discrimination and also violence. I want to educate people about the facts of people with albinism and promote the value and dignity of all individuals.

  1. What advice do you have for young girls living with albinism?

To my fellow young girls with albinism my message for you is to believe in yourself, your worth and potentials. You can achieve your dreams when you believe and work towards it.

  1. What is your goal for the next five years?

In the next five years, I will have graduated and have a degree in being an advocate for people with albinism. I would be able to engage with NGO’s, government organisations and communities to create positive changes and to make our voices heard.
