Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum had on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, filed a legal complaint against the man who groped and attempted to kiss her during a public appearance. She expressed that the press charge was to send a loud and clear message that the harassment was an assault on all women.
Recall that a man groped President Claudia as she was greeting supporters while taking a short walk from Mexico’s national palace to the Ministry of Education. This incident underscores the male violence and insecurity women face globally.
Speaking at a morning news conference, the Mexican president shared her disappointment over the problem of sexual harassment in the country. She added that the man had committed a common-law offence and called on the Secretariat of Women to investigate whether it was a criminal offence in all states.
“I say this not as president, but as a woman and on behalf of Mexican women. It should not happen. No one can violate our personal space, no one. No man has the right to violate that space; the only way is with the woman’s consent,” she added.
President Claudia also called for the review of nationwide legislation on sexual harassment to ensure that the assault is treated as a criminal offence. Furthermore, she suggested launching a nationwide campaign for all states to come together to defend the integrity of Mexican women.
