Mr Nigeria Ugo Nwokolo joins hordes of Nigerian men pressuring DJ Cuppy to marry a man of lower social status.
In a recent clip from an interview on “The Honest Bunch Podcast,” the current Mr Nigeria titleholder, Ugo Nwokolo, has joined the horde of men online pressuring Florence “DJ Cuppy” Otedola to get married.
This 52-second clip, posted on X (formerly Twitter), currently has 28,000 views. Ugo was seen offering unsolicited advice by stating that if DJ Cuppy were ready to get married, then she would go through her Direct Messages (DMs) across social media, where she would find a husband.
“Personally, I feel DJ Cuppy is not ready to get married. Because if she is really interested in getting married, there’s one thing she needs to do. Let her just go through her DMs across all social media platforms; she’s going to see at least tens of thousands of DMs from men,” he said.
Speaking further, Ugo also stated that DJ Cuppy had to stop looking for a man in her social status as not all men interested in her are after her wealth.
“All the men in her DM cannot be gold diggers. From those thousands of DMs, there must be one or two or three with genuine intentions who really love her for who she is, but she’s looking for men of the same social status as her. That’s where my advocacy comes in. As a woman, sometimes you need to go for men who are of lower social status than you,” he remarked.
The comment highlighted the double standards and societal pressure placed on successful women to conform to traditional expectations of marriage. Ugo’s remarks reflect a pattern of men feeling entitled to dictate how women, especially those in the public eye, should live their lives.
DJ Cuppy, a successful DJ, entrepreneur, and philanthropist, has long been subjected to relentless public scrutiny over her relationship status—scrutiny that men in similar or even lesser positions rarely face. While she has always handled such pressures with grace, the continuous policing of her choices speaks to a broader cultural issue where women’s worth is often tied to their marital status rather than their achievements.
Responding to the clip in her usual light-hearted comment, DJ Cuppy stated, “Lemme quickly check my DM.”
