Summary
PSN-YPG has partnered with NAFDAC to launch two major initiatives—the YADA Project and the Young Pharmacists Reserve Volunteer Programme. The collaboration will engage young pharmacists nationwide in regulatory and anti-drug abuse activities. NAFDAC’s Yedunni Adenuga will also speak at the PSN-YPG National Conference in Kano.
In a bold move to tackle drug abuse and strengthen regulatory engagement, the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria—Young Pharmacists Group (PSN-YPG) has announced a new partnership with the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC). The collaboration aims to launch the Youth Against Drug Abuse (YADA) Project and the NAFDAC Young Pharmacists Reserve Volunteer Program.
Acting on the directives of NAFDAC Director General, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, PSN-YPG leadership met with Ms. Yedunni Adenuga, NAFDAC’s Director of Narcotics and Controlled Substances, to initiate plans for both projects. The meeting marked the beginning of what both parties described as a strategic and transformative partnership to harness the potential of young pharmacists in addressing drug-related challenges across Nigeria.
According to PSN-YPG, the Volunteer Programme will deploy young pharmacists across all 36 states to actively participate in NAFDAC’s operations. These will include enforcement exercises, public sensitisation campaigns, ad hoc duties, pharmacovigilance, community outreach efforts, and NYSC orientation programmes. The initiative aims to deepen grassroots engagement while equipping pharmacists with critical experience in regulatory and public health roles.
Ms Yedunni Adenuga also confirmed her participation as a panellist at the upcoming PSN-YPG National Conference in Kano. She is expected to speak on issues surrounding drug importation and regulatory frameworks, particularly those that concern and empower young professionals in the pharmaceutical sector.
By bridging the gap between young pharmacists and national regulatory efforts, this partnership is set to reinforce Nigeria’s ongoing fight against drug abuse while building a new generation of informed and engaged healthcare professionals.
