Summary
Nana Akosua remains the only female candidate in the 2024 Ghanaian Presidential Race. The flagbearer of the Convention People’s Party aims to make Ghana’s governance more inclusive and accessible to citizens.
Following the death of Akua Donkor, the flagbearer of the Convention People’s Party in Ghana Nana Akosua is now the only female candidate contesting in the Ghana Presidential elections scheduled for Dec. 7, 2024.
Not new to the political scene, Nana has an extensive history of social and political contributions in Ghana and abroad. A graduate of Mfantsiman Girls’ Secondary School and Kumasi Polytechnic, she pursued further education in the United States, where she worked in domestic care and educational services. In the US, she actively volunteered for Obama’s 2008 campaign.
If elected as President of Ghana, Nana will ensure more inclusive and accessible governance. Through the “Government for your Doorstep Programme,” she promised citizens could make their complaints directly to the government.
“You can say your mind and anything that bothers you. The people can walk there and have access to governance. Government of the people, by the people, and for the people. That democracy is what we are bringing to the people,” Nana said.
The presidential aspirant has launched environmental and youth initiatives, including “Cleaning Ghana for Computers” and Ghana’s first youth parliament. She is also the organiser of Ghana’s first youth parliament and has over ten wards for her contribution to Ghana’s development. Some of her recognitions include the “Mother Ghana” by the National Union of Ghana Students during the ECOWAS Peace Summit in 2004.
