Her nomination highlights the growing influence of women shaping Africa’s media and activism landscape.
She Leads Africa (SLA) has named Simbiat Bakare, the founding director of Naija Feminists Media, among its “Top 50 Rising Motherland Moguls,” recognising her as one of Africa’s leading young women disrupting industries and breaking barriers in media.
Simbiat, who appears in the Journalism category of SLA’s 2025 list, is celebrated for her decade-long commitment to advocating for women’s rights through impactful storytelling. With a career spanning publications such as Premium Times, The Nation, and Modern Ghana, she has consistently championed gender equality, shedding light on critical issues affecting women across Nigeria and beyond.
Her platform, Naija Feminists Media, emerged as a direct response to the lack of media representation for feminist issues and women’s rights in Nigeria. Through investigative reporting, advocacy, and digital conversations, Simbiat and her team have worked to challenge stereotypes, document male violence against women and girls, and advocate for policy reforms that empower women.
“We are honoured to celebrate and uplift these rising stars, and we can’t wait to see what they will achieve in the years to come,” SLA said in a statement announcing the list. The platform, as Africa’s leading community for young women in business and career development, uses the annual list to spotlight women driving change across entrepreneurship, activism, science, and the arts.
Simbiat’s recognition among Africa’s rising female leaders further cements her influence in reshaping the media landscape for women. She has previously earned accolades from the African Fact-Checking Awards, the DUBAWA Fact Check Awards, and the OMA Award, highlighting her credibility as a journalist and women’s rights advocate.
Her nomination is not just a personal achievement but a testament to the collective efforts of Nigerian women fighting for equality and justice. As she continues to lead Naija Feminists Media in amplifying women’s voices, her impact on feminist journalism in Africa remains undeniable.
As part of its commitment to empowering African women, She Leads Africa will also be hosting the Business Boost Lab Workshop on March 20th at the LCCI Conference and Exhibition Center, Ikeja, Lagos. The workshop aims to equip female entrepreneurs with the tools to scale and strategise their businesses, featuring expert insights and networking opportunities.
