- Outrage as over 100 people massacred in Yelwata Community, Benue
At least 100 people have been killed in Yelwata, a community in Benue State, North Central Nigeria, following a brutal overnight attack by gunmen on June 13, 2025. The massacre, which reportedly lasted for hours, drew widespread condemnation, with many urging the Nigerian government to act swiftly to end the near-daily bloodshed in Benue State. Prominent political activists, including Aisha Yesufu, have also condemned the massacre.
- Mwape Chimpampa Invents Life-Saving Sunscreen for People With Albinism
Mwape Chimpampa, a Grade 11 student at Naboye Secondary School in Kafue, has developed an organic sunscreen aimed at protecting people with albinism, an often-overlooked group vulnerable to sun-related health risks.
Mwape’s inspiration is deeply personal. In 2017, she lost her father, who had albinism, to skin cancer. She aims to protect others and raise awareness about the need for accessible sun care.
- Titilayo Fowokan Emerges Ilupeju ICAN Branch’s First Female Chairperson
Dr. Titilayo Eni-Itan Fowokan, FCA, FCTI, FFAR, CEF, has emerged as the first female chairperson of the Ilupeju/Gbagada District Society of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria.
Dr. Titilayo, a finance expert recognised for her commitment to promoting integrity and transparency in financial practices, is the fifth chairperson and notably the first female to lead the district society.
- Oto Edet Sentenced to Life Imprisonment for Raping Neighbour’s 9-Year-Old Daughter
A 44-year-old man, Oto Edet, has been sentenced to life imprisonment by Justice Abiola Soladoye of the Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court for raping his neighbour’s nine-year-old daughter in a disturbing case that spanned from 2020 to 2021.
Justice Soladoye delivered this judgment, holding that the prosecution, led by Lagos State counsel Ms Abimbola Abolade, had successfully proven the one-count charge of defilement beyond a reasonable doubt.
- Bullying and Threats: Nursing WhatsApp Group Becomes Unsafe Space for Women
A Nigerian nurses WhatsApp community, Naija Nurses forum, has come under scrutiny following widespread reports of misogynistic comments, bullying of women, and the normalisation of gender-based violence.
The group (Bachelor and spinster nurses connect), convened by Kunle Emmanuel and created as a social offshoot of the Naija Nurses Forum, was intended to foster connections among nurses and find partners. However, it has reportedly turned into a space where women are objectified, mocked and routinely silenced.
