Team Nigeria impressed again at the ongoing African U18/U20 Championships in Abeokuta, Ogun State, with a dominant 1–2 finish in the U18 Women’s 400m final on July 17, 2025.

Chioma Nwachukwu powered to victory from lane 4, clocking an impressive 52.47 seconds to clinch the gold medal in style. From the gun sound, Chioma led the race, sealing her position as one of Africa’s brightest sprinting talents.

Not far behind was fellow Nigerian Hafsoh Majekodunmi, who secured the silver medal with a strong finish at 54.43 seconds, a proud moment for the host nation as both medals stayed on home soil. Ethiopia’s Bisset Bikes took bronze in 55.31 seconds.

Later on, Favour Onyah led a podium sweep in the U20 as Anita Enaruna (52.97s) and Toheebat Jimoh (53.00s) recorded massive Personal Bests (PBs). Onyah’s winning time was 52.47s.‎‎

The win strengthens Nigeria’s reputation in sprint events and adds to its growing medal tally at the championship.

Earlier in the day, Team Nigeria also dominated the U18 sprint medley relay, as the quartet of Chioma Nwachukwu, Miracle Ezechukwu, Rosemary Nwankwo, and Hafsoh Majekodunmi stormed to a gold medal finish in 2:08.16. It was a new Championship Record, surpassing the previous mark set by Nigeria in 2015.

South Africa and Botswana claimed the silver and bronze medals, respectively, in the relay event.

With these wins, Nigeria continues to close the medal gap, showing depth and determination in multiple track events.
