Chukwudi Nwachukwu, a 29-year-old Nigerian man, has been sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment for trafficking his sister and nine other girls from Nigeria to Ghana. Judge Akosua Anokyewaa passed this verdict at the Achimota Circuit Court in Accra, Ghana.
According to a 2024 report by The Guardian, eleven trafficked Nigerian girls were previously rescued from a prostitution ring allegedly run by Nwachukwu. He lured them with promises of decent jobs at a restaurant but forced them into sex work after they arrived in Ghana.
The victims aged 15 to 18 years were native workers from Imo and Plateau states. Nwachukwu worked with unidentified accomplices who recruited young girls from different villages in Nigeria. He trafficked them to Odorkor, where they are forced into prostitution and mandated to pay him GH€300 daily from their earnings.
Judge Akosua Anokyewaa, who presided over the case, found Chukwudi guilty on two counts of human trafficking. He was sentenced to ten years’ imprisonment and ordered to pay GH€15,000 compensation to each of the ten victims.
