Nigerian Police Shot Nursing Mother Dead, in Stray Bullet Incident in Ado Ekiti

A police officer who was celebrating the promotion of his colleagues in Ado Ekiti, publicly discharged his weapon, thereby shooting a woman dead in the stray bullet incident.

A woman identified as Ifeoluwa Adekaulu in Ado Ekiti in Ekiti State was shot dead by a stray bullet in front of a shop opposite the Okela Police Station from a police officer’s gun on Thursday.

According to Punch Sources, the officer, attached to another unit, came visiting when he allegedly discharged his weapon while celebrating the promotion of a colleague.

Adekalu, who was also a nursing mother, was said to be in a shop opposite the police station where the bullet was fired. The victim was said to have been returning from where she went to pay rent for a new apartment.

An eyewitness said, “The woman had just alighted from a commercial motorbike in a bid to access the police station when the incident happened. I do not know her mission, but she was going to the police station when the bullet hit her.”

Passer-by quickly rushed her to the hospital, unfortunately, she gave up the ghost.

The Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, AIG Adewale Adeniran, confirmed the incident, saying, “The officer in question has been disarmed and detained. The officer will face interrogations in line with the Nigerian Police Act.”

As of today the policeman’s identity is yet to be revealed but has been arrested and detained. “The officer will face interrogations in line with the Nigerian Police Act,” the AIG said.
