Nigerian referee Yemisi Eunice Akintoye has been selected by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) as one of 18 officials appointed to officiate at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON). It is scheduled in Morocco from July 5 to 26, 2025.
CAF confirmed Yemisi ’s appointment after she successfully completed a series of preparatory and fitness assessments in Cairo, Egypt. The superstar referee has been a certified FIFA official since 2020 and a Lagos State Football Referees Council member.
Yemisi Eunice brings a wealth of experience to the tournament, having officiated in the CAF Women’s Champions League and the West African Football Union (WAFU) tournaments.
Her participation comes as the Super Falcons of Nigeria prepare to face Tunisia, Botswana, and Algeria in Group B of the tournament. Meanwhile, South Africa’s Banyana Banyana will return to defend their WAFCON title.
Her selection highlights Nigerian women’s growing influence in football officiating and represents a proud moment for the country on the continental stage.
