This milestone was confirmed by the head coach of the Nigerian women’s wrestling team, Akuh Purity, on Tuesday, July 28, 2026.
Iowa State University is a historic powerhouse in American collegiate wrestling. It’s regarded as one of the most respected wrestling schools in the United States, competing in the NCAA Division I, the highest level of college athletics in the country. For the trio, the scholarship is a golden opportunity for them to compete against some of the best collegiate wrestlers in America.
According to Purity, the transfer is a defining moment in the athletes’ academic and sporting journeys because it reflects the immense potential of Nigerian wrestlers when given the right support. He added that the wrestlers earned the opportunity through years of competing in international tournaments, where their performances caught the attention of recruiters from Iowa State University.
