Nigerian gospel singer Timileyin Ajayi has confessed to killing his alleged girlfriend. He affirmed that he has no remorse, thereby sparking outrage and calls for justice amid claims of rising femicide in Nigeria.
Nigerian gospel singer Timileyin Ajayi has confessed to the brutal murder of his alleged girlfriend. Salome Adaidu, after being apprehended near a church in Agwan Sarki Orozo, Nasarawa state, near Abuja, on January 12 2025.
Timileyin was found carrying the head of the victim in a bag, which drew the attention of other people who accosted him before the police took over and arrested him. He was then transferred to the headquarters of the Nasarawa State Police Command from the Karshi development area of Karu Local Government Area of the state on Tuesday, where he was paraded alongside the knife and machetes he used to commit the crime.
Speaking to AIT News over the incident, the thirty-year-old admitted to dismembering her with a knife and cutlass, claiming he did so to end their one-year relationship. He claimed that he was enraged after seeing her chatting with another man and ordered her to go to the bathroom, where he later attacked her.
“She was always cheating. She hid things from me most of the time. I saw her chat with most of the other guys, and that is why I decided to kill her. I don’t regret killing her because life is reciprocal,” he said.
He alleged that she apologised and promised it would never happen again. This was when he ordered her into the bathroom, after which he went to the restroom to get a knife to behead her.
Men killing and brutalising women is a recurring trend in Nigeria. In 2024 alone, DOHS reported 133 women and girls were killed in a brutal case of femicide in 2024. Some of the incidents were reported by Naija Feminists Media here.
However, a source close to Timileyin’s victim contradicted his statements. Ugebede, @nurse_ugbede, who described Salome as “the most gracious and gentle lady you will ever meet,” asserted that “she was never his girlfriend.” She added. “Ele was Kidnapped. His games and lies are to draw public remorse.”
Reacting to the incident, social media users have drawn attention to the rising cases of male violence against women while seeking justice for Timilehin’s victim.
“Within five days, a woman brutally raped and killed in Delta, woman butchered by ‘gospel artist’ boyfriend, a 12-year-old, raped and filmed by five boys. But femicide and gender-based violence are supposedly exaggerated. Thunder will pieces all of you!!!” one X user @franny-eze said.
