Nollywood actress Doris Ogala has emerged as the governorship candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) in Abia State ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Her emergence was confirmed during the party’s governorship primary election, where the returning officer officially declared her the winner. A video from the event, which circulated on social media, showed party officials announcing her as the AAC flagbearer for the election. 

The declaration was made on May 30, 2026. Speaking after her emergence, Doris said her administration would prioritise the welfare of residents, economic growth, job creation, education, healthcare, infrastructure development, transparency, accountability and good governance.

The actress is known for her career in Nigeria’s film industry, and her entry into the governorship race marks a major shift from entertainment to active politics.

The 2027 Abia governorship election is expected to feature candidates from several political parties, including the current governor, Alex Otti of the Labour Party, alongside contenders from the All Progressives Congress (APC), the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and other parties.

Nigeria’s next general elections are scheduled to begin on January 16, 2027, with the presidential and National Assembly elections, while governorship and state assembly elections are expected to hold on February 6, 2027.
